We are the lions, mr manager!

On the 6th and the 7th of November we had the privilege to participate in this play at the Albany Theatre. We Are The Lions, Mr Manager! tells the story of the famous Grunwick strike led by the inspirational strike-leader Jayaben Desai, one of many newly arrived Gujarati women workers from East Africa. As well as singing choruses we enjoyed becoming the picket line on stage.

singing workshop
I’m grateful for the lovely event that took place on Saturday. I had no idea we had such a large community and such lovely people. Everyone felt one team, united with our wonderful singer who conducted us and inspired us to sing beautiful songs. The harmonies, the engagement — and the joy — it truly was a wonderful day.

On the 4th of October, Sing For Change had their first singing workshop funded by the National Lottery, giving people a chance to sing and see what Sing For Change is all about. We had a lovely surprise when 25 of our current members were joined by 25 new people. Joe, our choir leader, rose magnificently to the occasion teaching us all two new songs followed by lunch and a rousing chorus of Bella Ciao.
Feedback on the day was very positive. When asked for feedback about the day comments included:
Really enjoyed everything.
It was fun and uplifting.
The songs, the atmosphere, the topic of the songs, and the teaching style
Look out for our second workshop in the Spring.

albany theatre launch event
